CRAFTSMAN-MADE WATERCOLOUR PAPER
GARZAPAPEL Watercolour is a 100% cotton paper with a 50% Chiffon content. It possesses superior whiteness to other papers for watercolours that have made a name for themselves in the Fine Arts market-place, such as Aquarelle de Arches, Fabriano Artistico, Saunders Waterford and Canson. This high whiteness makes the paper respond exceptionally well to colour, achieving livelier textures of light and excellent white contrasts. The paper has a natural medium grain, imparted by wet pressing between woollen felts, and four naturally deckled edges (paper not straight-edged) in sizes and weights ranging from 20 x 14 cm. to 100 x 150 cm. and from 140 to 900 grams per square metre.
The absorbency is equally suitable for Watercolours, Gouaches and Acrylics; it lends itself to Colour Washing and achieves clear transparencies. As with the other papers we produce, this is achieved by the mechanical action on the cotton of the Dutch Stamping-Trough, which ensures the best paper-making qualities for our type of product. The resulting pulp is incredibly fine and the end result is a craftsman-made paper of exceptional smoothness and stability. When one holds low-weight papers, between 140 and 180 grams per square metre, up to the light, one can observe the homogeneous distribution of the fibres, which is almost unheard-of in papers of this nature. The neutral pH, with a slight alkaline reserve (buffer), is achieved naturally and without the addition of antacid chemicals such as calcium carbonate, etc. This all goes to make a highly ecological paper, resistant to ageing and pollutant-free, which might equally well have been produced in the 16th century. It represents the essence and spirit of this firm which supplies the artist with a paper of extraordinary quality and the assurance of knowing that his work will withstand the test of time.
